On Tuesday May 29, 2018 Lakota Children’s Enrichment, Inc. (LCE) appointed Janet Whiting and Maggie Dunne as LCE’s Acting Interim Co-Chairs in the Office of the Executive Director, pending confirmation of the Board of Directors.
Janet Whiting is an Oglala Lakota tribal member who lives and teaches on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. She has served on LCE’s Board of Directors for the past several years. Janet has held a leadership role in delivering and running LCE’s programs on the Reservation since 2013.
Maggie Dunne Founded LCE when she was in High School and currently is Chair of its Board of Directors. She served as the CEO of LCE through July of 2017, and for almost a decade was in charge of program development, program delivery and fundraising.
Maggie is enrolled in a Masters of City Planning and Economic Development degree program at MIT. This summer she is working at MIT’s Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), in Boston.
Janet and Maggie will work together to cover the responsibilities of the Office of the Executive Director. They replace Autumn White Eyes, who served as LCE’s executive director for the past ten months, through May 25, 2018.
Lakota Children’s Enrichment remains committed to its mission of empowering youth on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota through programs designed to elevate youth voices and by providing opportunities in the arts, education, sports, leadership and mentorship. LCE’s programs are tailored to deliver resources and to fill the specific requests of its youth board and community members.
