Youth Service of America, State Farm Insurance, Disney Friends for Change, Festival for Children and the Scarsdale Rotary Club have all TeamedUP with Lakota Children’s Enrichment to make Global Youth Service Day a three-day event on the Pine Ridge Reservation in SD.
Headliners for all events include: Nobel Peace Prize Winner Jody Williams, Spoken Word Star Jasmine Mans, Iranian American author and journalist Susanne Pari, LCE President Maggie Dunne and Youth Advisory Board Chair Keith Martinez.
Making preparations for GYSD on Saturday, April 5 we met in Kyle SD with members of our Youth Advisory Board and prepared for next Saturday’s Game Changer Youth Summit in Pine Ridge at the SuAnne Big Crow Boys and Girls Club.
At the Summit, LCE Youth Board member Summer Montileaux will lead a panel discussion on nutrition which will include input from a doctor a nurse and Julianna Brown Eyes. Summer won a $500 grant from Disney Friends for Change, and she will supervise volunteers in packaging healthy snacks for all Summit participants to take home.
Other themes at the Summit will include volunteering in the community, and creating a movement through the use of youth voices. Groups will break out to do service projects.
