Thoughts on Land: Jody Williams

JodyWilliams2We asked the Judges in our VOICES OF THE LAND Writing and Art Challenge to provide us with some words about what THE LAND means to them.  Over the next few days we will be rolling out some of their thoughts. We posted  judge Peter Balakian’s input yesterday.

Second up is Nobel Laureate Jody Williams, the third American woman to ever win a Nobel Peace Prize, which she won for her work on banning anti-personnel landmines. She also is know for her defense of  human rights – especially those of women – and is the Co-Founder of the Nobel Women’s Peace Initiative.  She recently completed her autobiography, My Name is Jody Williams: A Vermont Girl’s Winding Path to the Nobel Peace Prize.

We hope that her statement will inspire the young writers out there to dive in to our Writing Challenge.  Put yourself out there and #inspire us!

She says:

“I am from Vermont and it is in by blood and in my bones.

Its old mountains and river valleys are what I see when I close my eyes.

Vermont calls me and I am most at peace when I am there.”
