2012 Fill A Backpack Drive!

Thank you to our student team from Colgate University and our friends at  Re-Member for partnering with us in our 3rd Annual Fill A Backpack Drive! Shipments from New York toppled the scale at about 1,000 pounds and included over 100 backpacks, 60 calculators (more than 30 scientific calculators), loads of sneakers, school supplies and hundreds of books. Shipments from our Facebook Fans were equally generous and the collective haul was distributed by students from Colgate University, who devoted their Spring breaks to the effort.
A huge box of brand new toys contributed by the children at the Edgewood Elementary School was sent along to provide the grand prizes for the 3rd Annual Wanblee Egg Hunt, being run this year by Stephana at the Wanblee CAP.  Loads of plastic eggs, smaller prizes, treats, party favors and toys were sent along separately–all made possible by the generous financial donations from our Fans. Wanblee is one of the more remote communities on the reservation and remains a priority area in our efforts.
This effort brought smiles to the faces of many children and also allowed us to develop stronger connections with the teachers and school administrators who are working so hard to keep children excited about learning. We have some exciting new projects under discussion for the following year.
Those of you who participated by sending an item, running a supply drive or by spreading the word: you did great work! CARING+ACTION = HAPPY CHILDREN
